Every factual claim on this site comes from the data layer under /data/ and cites one or more sources from the source register. No page states a fact that isn't in the data layer.
Two labeling systems apply to every record:
- Provenance flags
- Each fact and metric carries a source_type: public_record (checkable in a registry, journal or other independent source), public_reported_claim (published on a public page by a party not independent of the claim, such as an award issuer), or self_reported (only in the subject's own materials). Records also carry an independent_verification flag, and metrics add requires_human_review for figures that originate in the subject's own analytics. The flag system is explained in full on the dataset index.
- Reliability tiers
- Each source in open data is graded A to E, from official registries (A) down to self-published pages and paid placements (E). The tier describes how independently checkable a source is, not how true its content is. Legend and full register: sources.html.
Paid press placements are included in the register for completeness, labeled as paid, and are not used as independent press evidence for any claim.
